You will visit the largest known macaw claylick, walk trails in search of flora, birds and monkeys, night walks looking for caymans, and other activities to get the feeling of the rainforest.

    Day 1

    In this journey, you will meet other travelers in your excursions and transfers. Group size is maximum for 6 people with one guide. Fly to Puerto Maldonado (from Lima or Cusco), and upon arival, transfer to the Tambopata River Port (20 Km) where you will board your boat for a 2 ½ hour ride to Refugio Amazonas, entering the buffer zone of this 1.3 million hectare conservation unit. After dinner you will go on a night walk in search of caimans.

    Day 2

    Today, you will go up a 25-meter canopy tower where you will be able to have impressive views of the primary forest and from where you will observe wildlife like toucans, macaws and raptors. You will visit the Brazil Nut Trail where you will be explained the process of this sustainably harvested product. Embark on a 4 ½ hour boat ride to Tambopata Research Center. You will enter the protected area where there is no human habitation. Within the 700,000 hectare uninhabited nucleus of the reserve, sightings of capybara, caiman, geese, macaws and other large species will become more frequent.

    Day 3

    An early wake-up to visit the macaw clay lick where dozens of large macaws and hundreds of parrots congregate on this large river bank. Mid-morning walk of a 5-km trail covering the prototypical rainforest with immense trees criss-crossed by creeks and ponds. Amongst the figs, ceibas and shihuahuacos you will be able to observe Squirrels, Brown Capuchins, and Spider Monkeys as well as Peccaries. Afternoon visit of a pond platform and night walk.

    Day 4

    Time off to relax and enjoy the lodge surroundings, try out a new trail, or repeat your favorite activity. Boat back to Refugio Amazonas. In the afternoon you will paddle around a lake on a canoe or a catamaran, looking for lakeside wildlife such as hoatzin, caiman and hornerd screamers, and others.

    Day 5

    We retrace our river and road journey back to Puerto Maldonado. Depending on airline schedules, this may require dawn departures.
